THEME: THE BLESSED TRINITY A COMMUNITY OF LOVE.

Last Sunday, we celebrated Pentecost Sunday-the birth of the church, the gift of God the father to the church. The power behind which the church functions and fulfills her mission her on earth. It was indeed a great experience for us as a church in Akoka haven undergone a life in the Spirit Seminar; we pray that the fruits may endure in our personal and communal life in the name of Jesus. Amen. By the special grace of God we shall have a fuller package next year so as to truthfully experience the joy and love God offers us. Also by the special grace of God, I announce to us that the Life in the Spirit Seminar shall be an annual spiritual program in the chaplaincy reaching its climax with the celebration of Pentecost Sunday. So it important we begin preparation for this on time.

Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. It is the Holy Spirit who helps us understand Jesus’ words and guides us to the whole truth (Jn. 14:26; 16:13) because of the Holy Spirit believers can experience, so to speak, the intimacy of God himself, discovering that he is not infinite solitude but communion of light and love, life given and received in an eternal dialogue between the father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Benedict XVI quoting St. Augustine says it is, an eternal dialogue between God who is the Lover, and Jesus who is the Loved and the Holy Spirit who is Love.

So today we celebrate true love that exists in three persons in God. There is only one God, but God is a relationship of the father and the son-Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Each of the persons in the Holy Trinity is really God, so the Father is really God, and Jesus is really God, and the Holy Spirit is really God. But they are not all the same person. Each of the persons in the Holy Trinity is also equal to all the others. So the Father is not greater than the Son or the Holy Spirit; they are all equal and what makes this possible is the presence of Love which exists amongst them.

The only way we can experience God and come to know God is contained in what St. John tells us in 1 Jn. 4:8-“God is love”, and 1 Jn. 4:16 says “we have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us.” This love is realized in the gift of Son who comes to die to save the world-John 3:16- “God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”.

Those who encounter Christ and enter into a friendly relationship with him welcome into their hearts Trinitarian Communion itself, in accordance with Jesus’ promise to his disciples: “If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” Jn. 14:23.

There are evidences of the Trinity in the entire universe and only those with faith can perceive it. From the spaces between the stars to microscopic particles, all that exists refers to a being who communicates himself in the large number and different elements in the universe.

Again, it is only in human person who is free and can reason, does this whole meaning of love become spiritual, becomes responsible love in response to God and to one’s neighbor through a sincere gift of self-which Saint Pope John Paul II also calls-Self Donation which is most evident in Holy Matrimony where the spouse give themselves whole and entirely to each other not selfishly but sincerely to mutual growth and mutual understanding and is open to life.

Furthermore, it is only when we offer this gift of self to others which is the central message of the second reading can we find truth and happiness. We pray that the fruits of the life in the spirit seminar we had may lead us to live in harmony and in peace in our chaplaincy and homes in the name of Jesus. Amen.
