Youth Mass In St. Augustine Akoka, The Dawning Of A New Beginning
By Obijiaku Obinna Kingsley

In the successful planning and execution of a new project, after the accolades and praises have been showered, no one tends to remember the pains experienced in the buildup of such an event. Everyone considers it a - ‘necessary evil’ - and wastes no time in dwelling in such thoughts; but moves quickly back into enjoying the euphoria of the moment which is indeed; priceless.

This was the same feeling we the planning committee of the youth mass felt while biting on the peppered meat served as refreshments during our first official meeting, after the close of the mass around 1.00pm.

The youth mass has come and gone leaving behind the memories, yet another interesting, spirit filling, exhilarating and soul winning mass beckons, in approximately three (3) weeks from now. The meeting was called to collect feedback, re-strategize and churn out further plans on how to make the subsequent youth masses even more engaging.

"The time has come for catholic youths to call a spade a spade and identify that which people yearn for. That which drives thousands and thousands of catholic youths away from their mother church must be nipped in the bud once and for all."

With the help of our illustrious chaplain, Rev. Fr. Wisdom Chikezie, the Family and Human Life Unit (FHLU) and a fleet of dedicated young people, our quest is one of enormous sacrifices and selfless service, but it can be done through Jesus Christ who strengthens us (Phil 4:13).

"This is not a debate to prove which denomination is closer to God, or one which would take the center stage in heaven with maybe a special position to sit at the right hand of God; nope, not the least."

I believe God has placed us all in different places, with different skin color, different sexes and different ideologies all for one purpose, for we to look for Him and in turn, serve Him  (Acts 17:26-27).

May the good Lord continue to inspire us as we plan for the next youth mass coming up on the 14th of August, 2016. Amen!
