You are the light of the world shining for God – Fr. Wisdom

Let your light shine!  Yes, in as much as this may sound cliché but the last thing we need right now in this tough economic clime we find ourselves in is an unproductive mind.

There is basically no excuse for any young person living in this century not to ‘shine’ because technology and the internet have helped bridge that gap.

Reading through my ‘church notepad’ and remembering the inspiring homily given by Fr. Wisdom on Sunday 5^th February gives me a lot of hope, as it is fulfilling when you hear words of encouragement from the pulpit reminding you of the wonderful decision you made by serving the Lord.

‘Every believer is meant to shine amongst men and women. To shine is not a private affair but a social business,’ said Fr. Wisdom.

The readings on that day centered on the reward for kindness, stewardship and righteousness. Prophet Isaiah cited a beautiful piece of information for those who serve the Lord in truth and I’ll like to share with you;

 

‘Share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you’ [Isaiah  58: 7 – 8].

‘Shining’ in a world where corrupt people are celebrated can be very tough and frustrating. Judging from a young Christian’s perspective, ‘shining’ in the world for God means me basically trying my best to do the right and just thing at every given time.

‘No one is perfect I agree, but no one would want to wish him or herself evil either. ‘

The time is right for us young people to let our good works shine in ways we approach matters of life, in so doing, gradually, the world would begin to turn to a better place for us and for our unborn.

‘For you to shine, you must serve men and women’, said Fr. Wisdom

To let our lights shine means to accept we are weak, and that we can’t do it all alone. We need our friends, family and our community. Most importantly, we need God and He is love.

So shine!
