Yaba Deanery Youth Day 2016: Inspiring The Faith Of Young Catholics Through Culture

Posted on:July 21st, 2016

By Obijiaku Obinna K.

The Catholic Church in Nigeria is so endowed with rich home grown young talents, so innumerable that it took keen pragmatic steps to pool it all together in one unique group. This brought about the forming of various deaneries in the various archdioceses in the state to properly harness these gifts.

I represent the Yaba deanery and our coordinator, Mr. Franklin Odinaka Anoje, a young spirited leader with a keen vision for excellence teamed up with his executives  to come up with a rather mind blowing idea.

This jubilee year of mercy, they have decided to inspire the faith of young people through culture. They intend to organize the annual deanery youth day popularly called DYD this year and it would touch everything traditional.

The theme of this year’s program is ‘Building A Culture of Mercy’. The day would come alive with various cultural displays from dance dramas to folklores to a mini pageant to musical performances by some young upcoming artistes to various cultural dances by indigenous tribes in Nigeria.

“Our culture is fast losing its value and our young colleagues in the diaspora no longer wish to associate with their native language and tribe. This is one of the reasons why we have decided to preach the message of oneness using our rich cultural heritage. We the youths are the proponents of our catholic faith and we intend for it to remain this way for the world to see us as we truly are; united even in our diversity,’ said Mr. Franklin.

This year’s event would hold on the 7th of August, 2016 in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Ladi-Lak Bariga, Lagos, Nigeria. The gate fee is N1, 500 per participant and it’ll be covered by bloggers and enthusiasts from St. Augustine Catholic Church Akoka Media Unit (SACCMU).

It promises to be fun, inspiring and engaging. I hope to see you there!
